First of all, it depends on the subject, instrument, or program you're applying for. For example, playing the trumpet requires a student to be physically large enough to hold the instrument and press the valves comfortably. In contrast, violins and guitars come in smaller sizes suitable for preschool-aged children. The most popular starting instrument for young learners is the piano or a lightweight keyboard, which children can begin learning ideally between the ages of 4 and 6. Wonder Music School offers the Music Basics program for beginners of all age:

• Preschool (4-5 years old)

• Children (6-12 years old)

• Teens (13-19 years old)

• Adults (20 +)

However, minimum age requirements are set by individual teachers.

Yes, each Wonder Music School student has the option to prepare for RCM exams, based on their individual needs and preferences, as well as those of their parents. Each year, more than 100,000 students across North America take part in RCM examinations. Before applying, students and/or parents must discuss this decision with their instructor.

Most students attend a 30-minute private lesson once a week. Those who prefer more time can opt for 45- or 60-minute sessions, offered once or twice weekly. Longer lessons or more frequent attendance are especially beneficial for advanced students, where additional time is recommended to fully cover the curriculum. Since all lessons are private, you’re welcome to request changes to the duration or frequency at any time.

Some teachers prepare custom materials for their students, while others use method books. Books are highly recommended, and each teacher will select the most suitable method book based on the student’s goals and level of study. Students use these books to reinforce what they’ve learned in class through home practice. Some method books are available for purchase at our location, and others can be ordered for pickup at the next lesson.

We encourage students to attend lessons at our studio for the best learning environment. However, in-home lessons may be offered depending on teacher availability. These sessions require a minimum duration of 45 minutes and include an additional fee of $8.50 per visit. Online lessons can also be arranged as an exception, with no extra charge.

Subject to availability, we occasionally offer keyboards, guitars, or violins for short-term rental. Rentals are billed month-to-month, providing a low-risk way to explore your child’s interest in an instrument and music lessons before committing to a purchase. If we’re unable to provide the instrument needed for home practice, we’ll gladly recommend a nearby location that may have it available.
